Boat Refurbishment Volunteer Weekend Plan

Goal: We need a long weekend where volunteers can camp down here and get on with the next stage of boat work – to make the sea voyage test possible.

STAGE 01 – Core Repairs & Systems

1. Back Deck

Structure

  • Structure is ready.
  • Use an angle grinder to cut slots in the strengthening sleeves.
  • Push sleeves into place.
  • Rope the existing scarf board onto the top as a temporary surface fix.
  • Add strengthening:
  • Bottom prop.
  • Link wire structure back to roof (needs checking – maybe a roof brace/rig?).

Pod / Motor System

  • Work out pod motor mounts.
  • Plan wiring and installation.
  • Order parts after mounting position is confirmed.

2. Boat Clear Out & Water Mission

Preparation

  • Empty boat.
  • Raise tarp lean-to, so junk can be stored properly.
  • Pack rubbish.

Water System

  • Finish water installation:
  • Adapters.
  • Taps.
  • Sink.
  • Drains.
  • Through-hulls.

Trip

  • Go to Abingdon for:
  • Water mission.
  • Rubbish disposal.

3. Wood Seating / Bed / Storage Boxes

Box Dimensions

Main box size:

  • 210cm x 67cm (have the ply)

Materials:

  • 2″ x 3″ wood battens.
  • 280cm x 4 lengths.
  • Approx 10m boxing battens timber.

Cut pieces:

  • 40cm x 12
  • 67cm x 12

Need:

  • Wood stain.
  • Possible metal brackets.

4. Solar System

Existing Solar Frame

  • 5.20m aluminium frame (already have).
  • Screw and glue into place.
  • Add slight rear gradient for water collection.

Panels

  • Install existing solar panels.
  • Secure in place.
  • Wire into boat switch box.
  • Charger.

Additional Solar

Need:

  • 2 x new solar panels.
  • 3m aluminium frame (already have).
  • Screw and glue into place.
  • Add slight gradient for water collection.

Buy:

  • 2 x 5m lengths of 6mm red/black solar cable.
  • Sikaflex x2 for glue.

5. Bedroom

  • Remove front seats.
  • Install master bed frame.
  • Use existing wood and fibreglass.
  • Check if more resin needed.

6. Engine Room

Tasks:

  • Clean and service engine.
  • Replace broken fuel return pipe.
  • Replace current 12V extraction fan with 24V extraction fan.

Bilge system:

  • Install 24V bilge pump (already have).
  • Add:
  • Plumbing.
  • Skin fitting.
  • Add second pump later
  • Clean existing manual bilge pump.

7. batteries and earthing

  • Fix down battery (look at layout for better air flow)
  • Earth the inverter to the engine block
  • Fit fuses to 48v batteries
  • Tidy up wiring

STAGE 02 – Finishing & Upgrades

1. Anchor & Front Hatch

Need:

  • Aluminium welding support.

Tasks:

  • Fix anchor.
  • Repair front hatch.

2. Hatches & Skylights

  • Cut out hatches.
  • Install 15mm acrylic skylights.

3. External Systems

Already have:

  • Navigation lights 12v (check 24v)
  • External hand holds.
  • Horn 12v (check 24v)

Tasks:

  • Install navigation lights.
  • Fit hand holds.
  • Fit horn.

4. Helm Pod

Tasks:

  • Cut side of helm pod.
  • Move drive lever.
  • Add step for easier access.

5. Floor / Fire Area

Tasks:

  • Cut out floor step.
  • Fibreglass area.
  • Lay paving stone as fire base.

6. Kitchen / Living

Need to buy:

  • Camping fridge (similar to current one).
  • Induction camping stove.

Seating:

  • Hard foam for:
  • Seating.
  • Master bed.
  • Fabric covering.

7. Safety

  • Fix fire extinguishers securely in place.

8. Furniture

Buy:

  • 2 x stools.

9. Windows

Add 4x side windows and 2x front windows + the existing kitchen window

  • 2 x solar panels.

  • Resin if needed.

Buy 4x side windows and 2x front windows
